Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese philosophy on how different energies affect our landscapes, houses and the people who live there. It means ’wind and water’, terms that poetically describe the forces that affect us to different degrees; a breeze or a hurricane, a creek or a tsunami; yin or yang.
Feng Shui is based on five basic elements – fire, earth, metal, water and wood – and how these interact. There
is a supporting and a controlling cycle to this interaction.
If the consultation reveals imbalance in the elements, appropriate measures of control or support, e.g. colours or forms, are suggested to restore balance.
Balanced energies form the foundation of good health and prosperity.
But feng shui is not interior design; it may be employed regardless of the residents’ preferred style. Measures
are chosen to accommodate the needs of the house and residents, and may encompass e.g. changing the angle of
a door, removing a tree, or painting walls in a favourable colour.
